These two sites have become part of my daily online browsing:
Haus Maus: Holly (who also has one of my favorite design blogs, decor8, which is where I met my friend Aude who lives in Paris) is setting up a part-time residence in Hannover, Germany, with her husband, and chronicles all the ups and downs of trying to furnish an apartment when you (a) are not living in the same country yet, and (b) are not completely familiar with all the best brands and stores.
In June I found Vocabulix, a free site with German vocabulary and grammar drills (they have Spanish, too). In addition to that, I’ve been writing with some people in Germany - they practice they’re English with me, and vice versa.
Die Katze ist groß.
The cat is big.
Er liegt auf meine Notizen.
He lies on my notes.
Er hilft nicht mich mit meinem Hausaufgabe, statt will er den ganzen Tag schlafen.
He doesn’t help me with my homework, instead he wants to sleep all day.
Typisch.
Typical.
GERMANY, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!?!?!

Come on now, don’t be shy.
I met my lovely friend Sarah in Miami last January. She lives in Cologne, Germany, and has graciously offered to let me stay with her and her family for a couple of weeks in October. I am bursting at the seams in anticipation!
This is my first time visiting Germany, so if anyone has suggestions for things I absolutely should not miss while I’m there, please share them in the comments.
I’m going on a trip at the end of October-November.
Guess where
Travel plans are afoot. Brandon, one of my best friends back in Charlotte, and I are formulating a trip for sometime in the fall. The shortlist of destinations right now is:
- Portland, Ore.
- Austin, Texas
- San Francisco
- Montreal
- Seattle/Vancouver
We have friends in Portland and Austin. Anyone have recommendations for any destination in particular, even ones that aren’t listed here?
I was also thinking about a trip to Germany in October, but I don’t think I can reconcile the costs right now. Unless there are some lovely, kind, generous Deutscher out there who want to offer a free place to stay? Ja, Deutschland?
