GERMANY, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!?!?!

Come on now, don’t be shy.
I met my lovely friend Sarah in Miami last January. She lives in Cologne, Germany, and has graciously offered to let me stay with her and her family for a couple of weeks in October. I am bursting at the seams in anticipation!
This is my first time visiting Germany, so if anyone has suggestions for things I absolutely should not miss while I’m there, please share them in the comments.
I’m going on a trip at the end of October-November.
Guess where
Travel plans are afoot. Brandon, one of my best friends back in Charlotte, and I are formulating a trip for sometime in the fall. The shortlist of destinations right now is:
- Portland, Ore.
- Austin, Texas
- San Francisco
- Montreal
- Seattle/Vancouver
We have friends in Portland and Austin. Anyone have recommendations for any destination in particular, even ones that aren’t listed here?
I was also thinking about a trip to Germany in October, but I don’t think I can reconcile the costs right now. Unless there are some lovely, kind, generous Deutscher out there who want to offer a free place to stay? Ja, Deutschland?

Today at my part-time retail job, about an hour before the end of my 8-hour shift, once of my coworkers said “You know, I think I just hit the wall where I just don’t want to talk to any more people.” It’s a good term, “hit the wall.” I feel like I’m head-butting it right now.
The past few weeks — heck, the past few months — have been upside-down, topsy-turvy, drive-you-crazy busy. I moved to a new apartment, work is getting busier and therefore more stressful, and a couple of new freelance projects have come my way. And it’s only going to get busier since I start my German classes at the end of the month and step up my training for the 3-day Susan G Komen breast cancer walk in DC this October (but that’s a whole other post).
Anyway, with so much going on, and considering my job involves a lot of writing, it’s hard to make myself do it here during my off-time. But I hope to break through this mental wall and update more often.
In the meantime, here’s a photo of Flight of Conchords that I took at their concert last night. Enjoy!

Hi!

Long time no see. Things are OK around here. Lots of changes are afoot — new job, visitors at the house, and as of today, a new apartment (OK, the apartment is not available for another few weeks, but it is definitely mine).
I don’t know about you, but so far 2008 has brought a lot of introspection and self-reflection for me. Trying to figure out how I got here and where I want to go next. My life isn’t bad, but I think there is room for improvement, both inside and out.
So I’m downsizing to a smaller and (much) cheaper apartment which is within walking distance of my job. I’m also going to do what I should have done in college and finally learn German (I took 2 semesters and dropped it because I had no foresight that knowing more than one language might be an asset). I plan on giving more attention to my creative side and also to my dog.
My goal is to come out on the other side of 2008 with a better outlook, or at least more peace of mind that I’m living my life to the fullest — and that’s really all I could ask for.
The weather outside is icy and gray. I’m not moving from the couch today.
